Perspectives on Grammar and Punctuation

List three rules of grammar or punctuation that are the most difficult for you to use correctly in your writing.

In grammar, sometimes I put too many commas into a sentence. I may use one word too many times in a sentence or in a paragraph. I'm not always sure where to put other punctuation marks.

The first attribute of writing that confuses me is where to place commas, which can be confusing in a several-subject sentence. Another part of good grammar that is difficult for me is remembering all the different names for the different parts of speech. A 3rd thing that can be challenging is not using small and undescriptive words in sentences.

Things in grammar that confuse me are:

  1. When I'm writing a sentence I'm not always sure about spelling all the time.
  2. I'm not always sure about where to put the commas.
  3. I'm not sure when and where to use the apostrophes, like in there's.

In grammar there are three things that cause me problems:

  1. I can't remember where to put commas.
  2. I never use ! and I always use.
  3. I write run on sentences a lot.

In grammar, I always get confused when to use words like their or there. I also don't know where to put commas in my sentences.

Can you describe what you find difficult about grammar and punctuation?

Everything about grammar is hard and confusing. Every time I think I figure what something does, it changes. It's just hard to tell sometimes what part of speech a word is because it depends on how the word is used. Objects are the hardest for me because it takes such a long time to sort out which words go together. It takes a lot of time to figure this stuff out.

Punctuation is the hardest for me. I can never tell if I should use a comma or not. I forget the rules for using colons and semi-colons also.

The part about grammar I find the hardest is complements. I get confused about predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives. If we just stay to the basics of grammar, it isn't too bad.
