Looking Back, Going Forward
Now that you have all settled into the school year, you may be wondering what has
happened to Adolescent Literacy In Perspective. Are
they ever going to post a new issue? Just how long is the "summer" hiatus? Readers,
rest assured that In Perspective will return. We are
currently in production, and in January 2008, will launch a new issue.
So what should you do until the January issue becomes available? Our staff, inspired
by the dual-faced Roman god, Janus, has been looking back at past issues of In Perspective, while also selecting new topics for the
upcoming year. We invite you to take a look at some of our past issues. In fact,
we have a few recommendations. Based on our user data, we have compiled the feature
articles from the top five issues of Adolescent Literacy In Perspective:
In the spirit of looking back and going forward, our "For Your Bookshelf" column
includes past reviews of books by some of our feature writers and lists new books
by those writers. A brand-new "A Look at the OGT" column explores what's new for
the school year.
Looking ahead to January, we will begin the year
with a focus on the integration of language arts and social studies. Since we are
often asked about resources for social studies instruction, our first issue for
2008 will offer ideas for linking the two discipline areas and highlight some of
our interdisciplinary resources. Other topics for 2008 include teaching comprehension
through informational texts, connecting out-of-school and in-school literacies,
particularly through the use of technology, and addressing classroom diversity through
literature. In each issue, you will find informative articles, suggestions for professional
learning, and high-quality resources. As always, happy reading!
