A Word A Day
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This resource is a worldwide online community of users who share a love for words, wordplay, language, and literature. An electronic publication, A Word A Day (AWAD) provides a vocabulary word, its definition, pronunciation information with audio clip, etymology, usage example, quotation, and other interesting tidbits about words to subscribers every day. Some basic history behind the word's origin is also included at this website. There is no charge to subscribe to AWAD. (author/ncl)

CAREER APPLICATION

Although this site does not offer a lesson plan, career-tech teachers in Arts & Communication, Education & Training, and General Career Skills can use the word-a-day feature to develop their students’ vocabulary. Of note, too, are the sidebar links in the right side of the home page (AWAD in the News) that link directly to newspaper articles about vocabulary in general and the specifics of the site (background, author information, site development).
