Lesson Development and Peer Reveiw

To fulfill the expectations for this module, participants, working in small groups or independently, will develop, teach, and present a lesson or unit that integrates technology.

Make sure that participants understand that their lessons, instructional units, or activities will be evaluated using the Technology Integrated Lesson Review Rubric. Encourage participants to use the rubric in the development of their lessons.

In developing their lessons, participants should be sure to...

  • identify appropriate state/district curriculum standards.
  • develop content goals and objectives based on student needs, curriculum standards, or achievement data.
  • identify the technologies that will enhance the lesson.
  • select the appropriate technology standards.
  • develop and/or select appropriate activities, tasks and resources to build student learning, taking into account students' technology knowledge and skills.
  • incorporate effective teaching strategies and delivery methods needed to build student learning.
  • develop pre- and post-assessments to determine student learning.

Effective technology-integrated lessons will thoughtfully combine curriculum requirements, appropriate technologies, and sound pedagogical practices. To frame the lesson development activity, facilitators should lead a discussion using the following questions as guide:

  1. What content do you want students to learn? Will you modify an existing lesson or construct an entirely new one? Which academic content standards will be the focus of your lesson? How will you use assessment data to make instructional decisions?
  2. What technologies will work best to teach the content focus? How do these technologies add value? What technologies are readily available? Which technologies do you have the skills to use well?
  3. What instructional approaches will enhance the learning of academic content and technologies? What approaches will work best for your students?

Presentation/Assessment/Reflection

Provide sufficient time for each participant or team of participants to present their lesson. Facilitators should refer to the Constructive Friend Feedback Form to set parameters for the peer review.

Assessment

To successfully meet the expectations for this module, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Develop and teach a lesson that effectively integrates technology.
  • Present the lesson to their peers, providing evidence of student achievement data and samples of related artifacts where appropriate.
  • Evaluate the lessons of peers by completing a lesson review rubric with post-teaching suggestions.
  • Submit the lesson, samples of student artifacts, and written reflection to the module facilitator.
