Overview of Activities
The following activities provide a wide range of knowledge and learning
experiences related to technology integration. These activities may be used as
presented or adapted to meet the specific learning needs of the preservice and
inservice teachers participating in the program.
Building Awareness: Learning the Basics of Technology-Integrated Teaching
This set of activities includes an introduction to technology integration and a
hands-on engaged learning simulation for participants. A collection of video
clips, depicting technology use in classrooms, is provided to highlight a wide
range of instructional practices.
Engaged Learning Simulation
Participants take part in a technology-integrated lesson and consider the
lesson from the perspective of a K-12 student and the teacher. A whole group
debriefing follows the lesson simulation.
The Benefits of Technology Integration
Participants review and respond to professional articles about the educational
benefits of technology integration in literacy instruction.
Developing a Critical Eye: Lesson Analysis and Discussion
During the lesson analysis, video clips and model lessons are used to engage
participants in discussions about effective use of technology.
Technology and Learning Spectrum
Participants view three classroom video scenarios and categorize them as
examples of literacy, adapting, or transforming uses of technology as outlined
by Bernajean Porter's Technology and Learning Spectrum.
Lesson Analysis and Summary
Participants review and then evaluate a model technology-integrated lesson. A
detailed rubric is provided for use in the evaluation of the lesson.
Lesson Building: Developing Technology Integrated Lessons
Working independently or in small groups, participants develop a lesson that
illustrates the effective use of technology and share their work with peers.
Lesson Development and Peer Review
Participants develop a technology-integrated lesson and present it for peer
review.
