Resources

catalystOhio Resources (COR) is a collection of teacher preparation modules, technology integrated lessons, online applications, videos, articles, and structured activities that can be used by teacher educators and professional development providers to effectively integrate electronic technologies into classroom instruction. These resources have been aligned to the Ohio Baseline Standards Framework.

The resources have been organized into five different components: Technology Use, Standards Connection, Instructional Strategies, Assessment Strategies, and Content Acquisition. Each component includes these sections: Engaging Teachers with Technology, Related Resources, and Highlighted COR Lessons. Additional elements specific to each component are also included.

The Engaging Teachers with Technology sections include Online Applications, Structured Activities, and Online Modules.

  • Online Applications are web-based, interactive tools that can be easily integrated into teacher preparation programs. These tools provide teacher educators and professional development providers a vehicle for modeling effective technology integration.
  • Structured Activities are detailed activities that can be incorporated as written or modified to meet the needs of the program.
  • Online Modules are fully developed programs that can be used as is or bits and pieces of the modules can be incorporated into teacher education courses or professional development programs.

The Related Resources sections include online articles, videos, online tools, and research findings. These resources can be used in a variety of ways. They may be incorporated into teacher preparation programs or used as information sources for teacher educators and professional development providers.

The Highlighted COR Lessons are technology-integrated lessons that are part of the larger ORC collection. They have been highlighted within the component in which they appear because they demonstrate some aspect of that component.

Technology Use

The Technology Use section includes materials that cover several important aspects of technology integration. The activities help preservice and practicing teachers begin to look at the integration of technology critically and to differentiate between the incidental use of technology and effective integration of technology. Several examples of innovative classroom use of technology are included. Also included is information for building basic technology literacy, assistive technologies, a look at ethical issues associated with technology use, and samples of online tools for teachers.

Standards Connection

In this section of COR, you'll find links to academic content standards and technology standards for students and teachers, as well as resources that explore the development of standards-based technology-integrated lessons. You'll also find a tool to browse COR resources aligned and linked to the text of the Ohio Baseline Standards Framework and Performance Indicators.

Instructional Strategies

This section of COR offers resources that address the growing challenge of meeting the needs of today's students.

Assessment

In this section of COR, you'll find materials that explore assessment as it relates to technology integration in three ways: electronic tools for formative and summative assessment, strategies for assessing student learning when it is demonstrated in an electronic format, and assessment of the effectiveness of the technology integration.

Student Learning

This section includes resources related to research on learning and the impact of technology on learning, online video examples of effective use of technology, and instructional strategies that play an important role in technology integration.

COR Tools

In addition to the resources, a search feature and an interactive bookmarking tool (My ORC Collection) are provided for user convenience.

Using the ORC Bookmarking Tool

My ORC Collection is an online organizer for bookmarking resources from the ORC and COR Collections. You can save and annotate your favorite resources in folders that you create and name. Folders can then be shared with colleagues, parents, or students by distributing the unique web address assigned to each folder.

To try out this feature, you must be a registered member of ORC (click here for free registration). Once registered, you will see Add to My ORC Collection Add to My ORC Collection with every ORC and COR resource. When you find a resource that you want to add to your collection, simply click the icon Add to My ORC Collection Add to My ORC Collection. You will then be asked to create a folder by typing in a folder name and description. Then you can annotate the resource with your own notes, ORC's professional commentary, or a combination of both.

Once you have added resources to your collection, you can find them at any time by clicking on the My ORC Collection icon in the upper-right hand corner of any ORC web page. You can always edit your collection by adding or deleting resources from your folders or updating the comments attached to your saved resources.

The COR team has created a sample folder called "Introduction to Technology." Check out the folder at. We've also created a teacher preparation module using this tool. You can see the module at. Feel free to share these folders with your students and colleagues by sending them the web address.
