Each of these highlighted COR lessons supports various principles of learning and demonstrates instructional strategies important in technology integration.

Mathematics

Developing Geometric Understandings and Spatial Skills Through Tangram Puzzles
Elementary students build on their previous experiences with puzzles in this geometry activity. Students develop their spatial memory and spatial visualization skills to recognize and apply transformations, and to become more precise in their use of vocabulary about space as they work in teams to solve online tangram puzzles.

Getting Out of Line
High school students investigate various patterns and models using the graphing calculator. Students work collaboratively to complete experiments and then report their results to the class.

Science

Germs and the Body
Elementary and middle school students engage in fun online activities as they learn about microbes and how the body protects itself against them.

Of Light and Lenses
Elementary students take on the role of an Olympic Downhill Ski Team Trainer as they research light and its properties online and conduct off-line experiments. They then work with the other trainers to create a Ski Team Safety Manual based upon their findings.

Reading

Let's Build a Snowman
Elementary school students investigate how animals get food during the winter months. The extension that suggests building snowmen or feeders to feed local wildlife could easily be developed into an interdisciplinary project-based lesson incorporating science and reading.

Murder and Mayhem: The Great Gatsby: The Facts Behind the Fiction
High school students access and examine primary source artifacts as they explore life in the 1920s. They then work in teams to write an eight-page literary newspaper.
