Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues

There is no question that the effective integration of technology into the curriculum can transform teaching and learning. At the same time, teachers must consider complex issues related to technology use. These resources are useful for raising the awareness of preservice and practicing teachers of some of the issues related to technology use in the classroom.

Indicator: Social, Ethical, and Legal Issues
The enGauge site offers breadth and depth of information on a wide range of technology topics. This section of the site addresses many of the classroom-based technology issues that have emerged.

Digital-Age Equity
This resource is another section of the enGauge site that deals specifically with equity concerns. The Indicators piece of this section offers an interactive Flash application that provides information about socioeconomic, gender, racial, special, and system-wide equity.

Resources for Teaching Information Technology Ethics to Children and Young Adults
This site offers several scenarios for starting a discussion about some of the social, ethical, and legal issues surrounding technology use. The scenarios illustrate ethical and unethical technology use. Each scenario also includes discussion questions and commentary.

Play It Cybersafe
Play It Cybersafe includes materials for teachers, parents, and kids. The teacher materials include information about cybercrimes, curricular resources, and research.
