The Ohio Resource Center (ORC) is offering a 3-day professional development workshop that focuses
on the use of inquiry challenges to investigate real-world essential questions. Inquiry challenges
provide students with opportunities to investigate standards-based scientific concepts through
extended inquiry. Participants will:
- explore how inquiry fosters the development of 21st-century skills such as creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, and communication and collaboration
- experience an inquiry challenge
- learn about essential and critical questions
- work in teams to develop an inquiry challenge
- examine inquiry and the learning cycle through the lens of an inquiry challenge
- discuss formative and summative assessment of an inquiry challenge
- learn about ORC’s science features

Cost: $295, payable to OSU-Ohio Resource Center by purchase order or credit card. No refunds will be issued.
iDiscovery Follow-On
A follow-on program is available online through iDiscovery. For the fall (2010) semester,
participants earn two fee-waived graduate semester credits in Science Teacher Education from
Miami University. Participants may opt for a second semester of online work and earn an additional
two fee-waived graduate semester credits in Science Teacher Education. There is a $100
nonrefundable course application fee each semester.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program that indicates the number of professional development hours.
