"Grammar Gimmicks" is an article that's chocked full of great ideas to get students engaged in classroom activities that promote grammar. Cathy Brooks Walker is a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher who knows how difficult it can be to engage young adolescent learners. She stresses the durability (and ease) of getting students to help one another as they participate in any number of activities that she fully details here. These activities are at once easy-to-use, brimming with great ideas that can lead to still more great ideas, open-ended, and definitely suited for middle childhood classrooms. Of interest, too, is how these ideas for teaching grammar with drama, grammar walls, "Twister" (board game), fishing, greeting cards, et al., can easily translate into teaching tips and lessons for K-12.
