Writing Poetry Like Pros
Best Practice
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This resource provides a series of lessons designed to familiarize students with well-known classic and contemporary poets and the defining characteristics of poetry. Using poems written by classic and contemporary poets, students explore the elements of poetic writing as they read and analyze a variety of poems. Working cooperatively, small groups of students read, discuss, and perform a selected poem. Links to poems, biographical information about poets, and ideas for lesson extensions are also available at the website. (author/ncl)
