Picture Sort for Initial F and T
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This picture sort for the initial sounds of F and T is from the activity-based book, Words Their Way: Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary, and Spelling Instruction. This activity helps children make the connection between spoken and written language. Children learn to identify the beginning sound in the pictures and place the pictures under the correct beginning letter. The activity can be extended when children draw and sort their own pictures that begin with the same beginning sounds to reinforce the letter/sound association. (author/jlkrause)
