Developed by Brenda Krum, this module offers succinct, relevant suggestions for teaching summarizing as a reading strategy. Specific topics addressed include "What is summarizing?", "Where is summarizing discussed in the Ohio Academic Content Standards?", "How can summarizing be taught so that it will support reading comprehension?", "How can summarizing be used to teach vocabulary?", "How can summarizing be practiced in a literacy center?", "How can instruction for summarizing be differentiated?", and "How can assessment be integrated into teaching the strategy of summarizing?" Practical ideas are provided for using summarizing as a strategy before, during, and after reading.
