This activity offers students a hands-on introduction to longitude, latitude, and absolute location. The students design a human globe and identify various places on the globe using different colors of yarn and labels. This activity requires a lot of room so it could also be done outside on the playground. This activity provides students first with a concrete, whole class activity to locating various places on a globe, then to a semi-concrete activity designing a globe of their own using a balloon. This is an incredible activity to teach or review location of the equator, Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, North Pole, South Pole, Prime Meridian, the tropics and the hemispheres. (author/pb/vm)
