PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This lesson provides students with the opportunity to write authentic news stories. Using print and online newspapers, students analyze news writing, summarize articles, and plan and write their own stories. Taking on the role of reporters and editors, students publish their own classroom newspaper. Various aspects of newspapers are introduced in this lesson, including parts of a newspaper, writing informational texts, newspaper reading habits, and layout and design techniques. (author/ncl)
