Professional Commentary

This program provides teachers with specific strategies for teaching research practices, finding topics, and assessing student work. The units in the course include "Writing Mathematics," "Conjectures and Proofs," "Finding a Topic," "Reading and Keeping a Research Journal," "Components of a Research Paper," and "Oral Presentations." The program enables students to stretch themselves mathematically. The site includes an abstract, personal observations, a list of resource materials for students to use in their research, a time line, and suggested assessments. (author/sw)
