Playing Name Bingo with Chrysanthemum
Promising Practice
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

The first few days of school are an important time for setting the tone and climate in a classroom. In this activity, students listen to the picture book Chrysanthemum and discuss the importance of a name. This getting-to-know-you activity gives every student a chance to be in the spotlight as they participate in the Name Bingo Game. A twist on the traditional bingo game, this version integrates name recognition and letter writing with a fun ice breaker. This activity also allows teachers to make informal observations about students' ability to form letter correctly, follow multi-step directions, recognize names, and other early literacy skills.
