PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This best practice lesson is an inquiry-based lesson dealing with Gypsy Moth infestations in forests. In Module 1 students gather background information on Gypsy Moths. In Module 2 students are asked to identify the potential damage Gypsy Moths can inflict on our forests and are asked to predict the future spread of this insect based on gathered facts. In Module 3 students analyze the pros and cons of a variety of management options for controlling gypsy moth populations, and in module 4 students are asked to engage in an online discussion with other students on their preferred management plan.
