PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This content resource presents information about six different types of telescopes and includes an interactive activity that allows students to select an object (sun, moon, planet, or galaxy) and the type of telescope through which they would like to view the object. The image changes each time the student selects a different type of telescope. The information presented for each telescope includes the types of electromagnetic energy the telescope detects, whether the telescope is an earth or space telescope, and an example of the telescope. The combination of the introductory information about the telescopes and the interactive activity results in a highly engaging exploration into telescopes. This resource could be used to introduce students to different ways scientists collect data about the universe. (ts)
