PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

Students engage in two online reaction time tests to explore the impact of practice on learning. One test requires enough computers with Internet connections so that the students can work in small groups or teams of two. The other involves online information that could be printed for student use away from the computer. The activities require students to collect and then analyze data. The goal of this lesson is to encourage students to think about their own learning and the strategies that best help them learn new skills and ideas. This can be extended to include the idea that some characteristics are inherited and others are learned. (author/ts)
