Peer Edit with Perfection: Teaching Effective Peer-Editing Strategies
Best Practice
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

Revising and editing are essential parts of the writing process. This lesson introduces students to a peer revising/editing protocol. Using a three-step peer-editing, students learn a process that consists of compliments, suggestions, and corrections. They begin by practicing the techniques on sample student writing and viewing a PowerPoint tutorial to help reinforce the process. Once comfortable with the process, students use their knowledge to create a peer-editing assessment tool. This lesson works well within a writing workshop model or as a scaffolded lesson.
