PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This introductory lesson familiarizes students with the features which distinguish fictional and informational texts. After reading Frog and Toad, students compare the characteristics of that text with a nonfiction selection, Tale of a Tadpole. Charting the key differences between the texts, students create working definitions for fiction and nonfiction. Although this lesson pairs texts that focus on frogs, other related fiction and nonfiction text sets may be selected. (ncl)
