PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This lesson uses a read aloud of Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon by Cynthia Rylant as a pre-activity discussion. Students discuss what Henry and Mudge enjoy doing inside and outside during the fall. Next, they have an opportunity to look at a variety of pictures depicting the seasons and select one that will make a good story. Each student dictates a story to the teacher or an older student who writes it down. As an extension, students could illustrate their stories and read them to partners. Ideas for connections to the science curriculum are included. (sec)
