Media Literacy: Designing Your Own Internet Book Club
Promising Practice
PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

In this lesson, students read and discuss a New York Times article about television and online book clubs inspired by Oprah, the Today Show, and Good Morning America. Next, they evaluate the effectiveness of these Internet book clubs and present their findings to the class. For this activity, teachers could select alternate online book clubs that are especially appropriate for their classes. Finally, students design their own online book club (under the umbrella of a fictional television program) to encourage reluctant readers to read more. (author/sec)
