This resource is a description of the KWL instructional technique developed by Ogle in 1986. Before reading, students fill out the "K" column of the chart listing what think they know about the reading. They then fill out the "W" column listing what they want to learn from the reading. After students have read the selection, they fill out the "L" column listing what they learned. When the "L" column is completed, students revisit the first two columns to detemine if any of their initial information was inaccurate or lacking. Follow-up includes rewriting inaccurate statements or discussing questions they still have. (author/jlkrause/ebm)
