PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

The central activity in this lesson is designed to simulate competition between birds based upon beak type. Students select a tool to that serves as a bird's beak throughout the simulation. At the end of each set of trials the "birds" that failed to meet the critical survival value are eliminated. As the simulation progresses the survivors compete for fewer resources. Data are collected throughout the simulation. (ts)
