  Inquiry Based Unit
Essential Question
How can you paint a mental picture using only sound?
Critical Questions

Unit Description

Each student will work with a partner to produce an old-fashioned radio drama or comedy. In the entry event, students are asked by a radio station manager to produce radio programs that will appeal to a wide demographic audience. This group includes both baby boomers and younger audience members. In order to accomplish this task, students will need to produce programs that are timely and of interest to today’s audiences. The students will “paint” a picture in the listeners’ minds by using dialogue, music, and sound effects to appeal to this wide demographic.

To complete the unit’s challenge, students will need to use audio editing, mixing, and equalizing to produce the final radio program. Students will write scripts and gather sound effects they will need. If they aren’t able to locate a pre-produced sound effect, they will be required to produce the sound themselves. The finished production will sound like a professionally produced radio drama or comedy.
